WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEARING?

Did you know that unaddressed hearing loss could increase the rate of cognitive decline by up to 40%?*

Research suggests that addressing hearing loss in midlife is the biggest amenable risk factor for dementia - this means something we can change to potentially reduce our risk. With simple step-by-step hearing care, eargym makes it easy to look after your hearing health throughout life.

Designed by professionals and informed by research, eargym is an Alzheimer’s Society Innovation Award Winner. Just launched: a brand new type of cognitive training designed to stimulate your auditory system - the parts of the brain responsible for hearing. eargym’s training challenges core hearing and cognitive skills, including speech intelligibility, auditory processing, selective attention, and working memory.

HOW IT WORKS

Play with purpose: Entertaining and immersive games designed to improve auditory processing, reduce listening effort, and boost focus.

Discover your hearing: Join a community of people passionate about their hearing health with access to advice and resources to help you live well for longer.

Contribute to dementia research: Support the brilliant work of charitable and academic communities and train your brain to hear better with just a few minutes a day.

WHY EARGYM?
eargym is founded by Amanda Philpott, an ex-NHS Chief Executive, and Andy Shanks, an ex-DJ. Both of them live with hearing loss and have close family members affected by dementia. Together they set out to keep people hearing well for longer and connected to the life they love.

In 2022, eargym successfully won a place on the Alzheimer’s Society Innovation Accelerator Programme and in 2023, eargym was selected as one of just 24 semi-finalists for the Longitude Prize on Dementia. Join our mission and try eargym.

HELP US ADVANCE RESEARCH

The more we understand about the link between hearing and brain health, the bigger the impact we can have. Data is essential to research - by using eargym regularly to test and train your hearing skills you can contribute anonymised data to help advance this hugely important area.

EARGYM USERS LIVING WITH DEMENTIA:

“When I heard about eargym I was intrigued because my anxiety means I struggle concentrating in rooms with lots of chatter. Honing in on a particular conversation when there is background noise is something that everyone struggles with to a degree, but it is exacerbated for those with dementia. [...] It is immensely useful for those like me, or with early onset dementia who want to keep mentally active and stimulated to maintain a better quality of life for longer.”
Peter from Sussex

“I am now in my sixties with dreadful short-term memory and often forget appointments. Keeping up with conversations when out socialising is also difficult. eargym’s benefits were instantaneous. The games really help hone your hearing which is a vital skill for those with dementia.”
Nigel from Swansea

It’s never too early to start looking after your hearing health. No matter what challenges you face with your hearing, eargym is here to provide you with the support you need every step of the way.

Disclaimer: if you experience a sudden decline in your hearing health you should contact your doctor for a referral or speak to a specialist.
